Francis Bebey was a Cameroonian musicologist, writer, composer, and broadcaster. He spent much of his life living in France, raising a musical family.  He toured extensively. Patrick Bebey is his youngest son, who has just released a record of his father’s unknown songs from tapes found after his death. Trésor Magnétique is the record, 20 tracks of previously unreleased material. Patrick and Baruch discuss this musical legacy, how it came to be assembled, and the music itself.

Father and son (and other family members) shared a love of music and of performing. In addition to this collection, Francis Bebey was prolific, with an extensive discography. Patrick Bebey has recently released a record of his own Ponda which is also well worth listening to, carrying on his family’s musical tradition.
