In this episode we feature the author of the new book American Metaphysical Religion: Esoteric and Mystical Traditions of the New World. Ronnie Pontiac is a musician, producer, and scholar. He worked as Manly P. Hall’s research assistant, screener, and designated substitute lecturer for seven years. Ronnie is a founding member and primary guitarist of Lucid Nation, executive producer of the documentaries Rap is War, Exile Nation, and the award winning animated short Cohen on the Bridge. He has written for Invisible College Magazine, Newtopia, Metapsychosis, Occult of Personality, and Reality Sandwich.
The book examines the history of religion and spirituality in what became the United States, focusing on the role of metaphysics, from before the European invasion to the present. The historical perspective allows for examination of current trends in religion, including the evangelical extremism that is gripping parts of the nation.
