Mamak Khadem – New Record “Remembrance”
Mamak Khadem has released her fourth album Remembrance which is a collection of Persian poetry set to music. The poems/songs speak to loss, love, and continuity. The music is beautiful, emotional, and beautifully performed.
Mamak is from Iran but has lived in the US since she was a teenager. While loving her culture Mamak would not be safe if she returned to Iran because of politics. She is one of many persons whose country of origin has become less safe due to extremist politics and/or religion.
Mamak tells us parts of her story and some of the recent story of Iran as she describes the songs on the album; what they mean and why they are important to her. The songs are all in Farsi but there are translations, and some powerful videos, on Mamak’s website.
