Afro-Andean Funk – New Album “The Sacred Leaf”
Araceli Poma and Matt Geraghty are Afro-Andean Funk and they have just released their first album The Sacred Leaf.
This project and this music bring together Afro-Andean culture with other African and Caribbean musical traditions as well as electronica and contemporary jazz. The songs on the new album are personal, some of them are also political. The message is one of inspiring unity and healing, personally and societally. There is a theme of Justice running through this collection of songs.
Matt and Araceli talk about their inspirations, the intention of this musical project, and some of the other projects they’ve worked on, like the film The Warrior Women of Afro-Peruvian Music.
If you’re going to be near Long Island City on July 30, check out their free outdoor concert!
