Angelina Llongueras – Catalonia 2020
Angelina Llongueras, PhD is an actress, playwright, professor, researcher, and journalist. Angelina was on Paradigms in 2016 sharing her experience at Standing Rock, North Dakota, with the Water Protectors. She is from Catalonia, and in this episode explains some of the history that has led up to the current situation in Catalonia, where the independence movement is being met with violent repression from the Spanish government.
The history of the current conflicts in the region goes back hundreds of years. Angelina explains how the once-independent kingdom became a part of Spain, and how, in the mid 20th century, a fascist Spain was considered more acceptable to the allies than a communist or socialist Spain, leading to the current situation in Catalonia.
The movement towards independence in Catalonia can be instructive for people in other countries where fascism is rising.
