Roy T. Anderson & Gloria “Mama G” Simms: The Film – Queen Nanny: Legendary Maroon Chieftainess
Queen Nanny: Legendary Maroon Chieftainess is a new film by Roy T. Anderson, an accomplished Hollywood stuntman and documentary filmmaker of Jamaican Maroon heritage. The film will premiere at the United Nations on Monday, October 19 as part of the United Nations Remember Slavery Programme. The story of Nanny of the Maroons is not well known around the world, yet. Roy discusses why he made the film, and some of what he discovered during the making of the film, as well as the impact this film can have for African descended women, for all women,and men, and for the world.
Gloria “Mama G” Simms, was installed as Gaa’mang of all the Maroons in June of 2014 in Suriname. Mama G shares her experience of making the film, what it means to be Gaa’mang, her work on behalf of the Maroon people, and her personal relationship with Queen Nanny.
